Iraq is considered a new law that would allow marriage of females ranging from age 8 years.
This has provoked strong opposition activists in this country because such a law is seen as a major step back for women’s rights.
Activist adware Hana said: “This law is a crime against man and child. Small girls who marry become subjects of physical and psychological. ”
The proposal was presented to the Cabinet last year by the Iraqi Minister of Justice and was approved last month. Already, Parliament must ratify this proposal in order to turn into law.
Current law in Iraq considers legal marriage age of 18 or 15 with the approval of a supervisor. / Tch /
